Kyoto University
Founded in 1897, Kyoto University has deeply considered its traditions of liberal and academic freedom, educating many. It is the second oldest university in Japan, and formerly one of the Imperial Universities of Japan. Kyoto University has historically advocated a "spirit of freedom" in its academic activities. The university established itself as a premier research university with six Nobel Laureates and two Fields Medalists among its faculties and alumni. The university is also known as the home of the Kyoto School group of philosophers. Kyoto University has 3 campuses nestled in a basin, which forms the main part of Kyoto, a city which in tradition and culture of which Kyoto University is a part.

In the University - Rents vary according to location and room size.
Single room with private kitchen and toilet
Rent ¥11,700 per month including water, rental bedding and internet access. Electricity charge is excluded.
Couple room with private kitchen and toilet
Rent ¥18,900 per month including water, rental bedding and internet access. Electricity charge is excluded.
Family room with private kitchen and toilet
Rent ¥28,400 per month including water, rental bedding and internet access. Electricity charge is excluded.
Outside the Campus - Rents vary according to location, room size, facilities and such. The following is an example of an ordinary apartment in Kyoto. In general, rooms are not furnished.

Japanese Language Proficiency
Most classes at Kyoto University are taught in Japanese, unless specified as otherwise. Those who wish to enroll in an undergraduate program or a Master’s program must have sufficient proficiency in Japanese upon entering the University. Generally, notifications from the administration offices are in Japanese. For daily lives, international students are required to have adequate Japanese language ability depending on their needs.
